A Conversation with Samuel G. Freedman

Samuel G. Freedman, acclaimed author of “Letters To a Young Journalist,” New York Times “On Religion” columnist and professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism visited FIU on March 16, 2015 to mentor students who are looking for a job in journalism. “You can teach someone to write grammatically,” Freedman said. “But you can’t teach someone to have a work ethic and a curiosity about the world.” Freedman lectured about the ethics revolving around covering an educational and religious beat. He also answered questions about some of his latest books like “Breaking The Line: The Season in Black College Football that Transformed the Sport and Changed the Course of Civil Rights” and “Jew vs. Jew: The struggle for the soul of American Jewry.”
