Continued mentorship with journalism students from Coral Gables Prep Academy

SPJ-FIU visited once again the students of Coral Gables Preparatory Academy on Feb. 26, 2016.
The students were taught how to built a profile by putting them in pairs to interview each other and ask questions such as what are their hobbies, usual routines and other things.
After, students volunteered to read their stories to discussed what changes could've been made.
SPJ-FIU will be visiting them soon.

MAST @ FIU learn about profiling

The high school students of the MAST Academy at FIU were visited on Feb. 29, 2016 by SPJ-FIU.
Students were split in groups of three to interview visitors, Jayda Hall, Sam Smith and Sudyen Navarrete to write a profile about their lives.
Students responded very well by engaging with the interviewees, and asking great questions.

Coral Gables Preparatory Academy's field trip to FIU's Biscayne Bay Campus

Coral Gables Preparatory Academy visited FIU-Biscayne Bay Campus to meet the members of SPJ-FIU.
The stopped by the South Florida Newsroom and met faculty from the School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
They were given a walk-through around classes to meet professors and learn about that day's lecture.
After they were treated to pizza and soda for lunch.

SPJ-FIU visits Coral Gables Prep Academy for first mentorship session

SPJ-FIU did their first mentorship program with the middle school students of Coral Gables Preparatory Academy.
FIU journalism students, Kathleen Devaney, Amanda Rabines, Gabriella Arzola, Daniela Gonzalez and Sudyen Navarrete stopped by to teach students how to tell a story through a phone snapshot.
In addition to cell-phoneography, students learned the basic of reporting and managed to put a story together that was out of order.

High school students of MAST @ FIU were visited by SPJ-FIU members to learn what makes a story newsworthy.
They also learned about the nut graph, inverted pyramid and soft, and hard-ledes.
