Will Write for Food

SPJ-FIU sent two students to Florida’s SPJ Pro Chapter “Will Write for Food” event in Hollywood, Fla. In 36 hours, students produced a 28-page edition of the “Homeless Voice,” the nation’s second-largest homeless publication. Over Labor Day weekend 2014, students interviewed homeless residents at the COSAC Homeless Shelter, while also living and dining there. “Thirty-six hours ago, we all thought we knew what ‘homeless’ meant,” said FIU student Sandeep Varry, after the event. “I bet every single dollar in my pocket that if you go around and ask each of us, we will tell you that our idea was not even close to reality.”
